As the first publication in the Informed Strategies series, the report is a snapshot of trends and predictions, both internal and external to the architecture, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry. It’s available as a complimentary download for SMPS members and for a fee to nonmembers.

In 2015, the SMPS Foundation sought the expertise of SMPS Fellows to participate in a survey about professional services marketing and the A/E/C industry. SMPS Fellows represent the highest level of experience and leadership in marketing within the design and building industry. The participating SMPS Fellows included principals at international firms, senior leaders in boutique firms, presidents of distinguished consulting practices, and senior-level marketers. From the survey results, the 2016 Fellows Survey report was developed and recaps challenges, trends, and predictions for A/E/C marketing and business development.

William Long, P.E., FSMPS, CPSM, chairperson of the SMPS Foundation Fellows Report Committee and lead author states, “This report includes definitive trends that can be proactively used by all A/E/C firms to accelerate their growth and become more profitable. Specifically, it will help them to identify challenges and successfully prepares to overcome them as they move forward in the rapidly changing industry.”

The SMPS Fellows were asked about several topics in the following four segments: Looking Back, Looking Ahead, Preparing for the Future, and Megatrends. Close to 300 pages of research were collected from the survey and follow-up interviews. The authors of the report condensed this research to 30 pages, with three pages dedicated to conclusions, takeaways, and actions.

SMPS Foundation President Holly Bolton, FSMPS, CPSM, adds, “As the first publication in the SMPS Foundation’s new Informed Strategies series, the 2016 Fellows Survey report provides insights and perspectives that will help A/E/C firm leaders understand the landscape as they set goals and plan strategies for the future.”

Scott Butcher, FSMPS, CPSM, a past-president of the SMPS Foundation and contributor to the report, agrees. “This insightful publication will help firms understand the major issues facing the industry and allow them to create a distinction by honing in on some of the most important trends.”

For more information about the 2016 SMPS Fellows Survey report, contact SMPS Foundation Staff Liaison Molly Dall’Erta at 703.549.6117, x231 or molly@smps.org.

###
About the SMPS Foundation
The SMPS Foundation, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization established by the Society, has a mission to discover, in an ever-changing marketplace, what makes A/E/C organizations successful in marketing and business development.
