Since joining, I believe SMPS has helped me strengthen existing connections and build new ones, of course. I\u2019ve run into people I\u2019ve worked with and\/or spoken to (even if only by email) at so many events! It\u2019s such a pleasure to connect faces to names and voices. I still feel like I\u2019m brand new to marketing. I want to make all the connections I can.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Helpful hint to share with your fellow SMPS members:\u00a0 <\/strong>I will share something my chapter mentor shared with me: Take the time to learn your coworkers\u2019 communication styles. As marketers, we compile information \u2013 and often we have to chase it down, too. Whether you\u2019re in a small business or a large firm, you\u2019ll work with many different people. Knowing the way your colleagues communicate will help you get the details you need quickly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tell us something we would be surprised to learn about you: <\/strong>I love to cosplay (costume play)! I enjoy multimedia conventions like MegaCon Orlando and DragonCon in Atlanta. I try to attend at least one con every year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>As a CPSM, how has certification benefitted you? <\/strong>I don\u2019t have a formal background or education in marketing. I think my certification has truly helped me understand the basics. When I first started at Blue Cord, I learned through a combination of trial and error, and my colleagues\u2019 experience. My degrees are in public administration and foreign language, and I\u2019m not working in either of those areas. Earning my CPSM designation has helped me learn and retain a lot of what seasoned marketers already know. Our chapter offers exam study groups; I\u2019m facilitating one of the six domains in 2017.
