You need to take a chance and put yourself out there to make the most of your career. Sure, you might stumble a bit but, in most cases, you\u2019ll learn something\u2014and that may lead to new opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes I\u2019m asked: How can I move into a leadership role if I don\u2019t have any experience? One great way is through volunteering. Getting involved, especially within your chapter, will provide you with new skills and can help open the door to leadership opportunities in SMPS and at your firm.<\/p>\n<p>With your SMPS membership, there are many ways to go about it. You could:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"\/i-am-a-chapter-leader\/\"><strong>Join a chapter committee<\/strong><\/a> to gain new responsibilities<\/li>\n<li>Work on a regional conference to amp up your management skills<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"\/learning\/\">Attend a program<\/a><\/strong> and bring ideas back to share at your firm<\/li>\n<li>Share with your boss <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventscribe.com\/2019\/SMPS\/agenda.asp?pfp=Networking\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">new connections<\/a><\/strong> you made at a conference<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Volunteering is like stepping stones along a path. We don\u2019t always know how long the path is\u2014but getting involved will put you in the right direction. And, I\u2019ve seen it happen time and time again: Getting involved through volunteering helps professionals move into leadership roles.<\/p>\n<p>I encourage you to reach out to your chapter board of directors and see how you can get involved.
